Resumen The Botanical Garden of Nizhni Novgorod University is the largest botanical and ecological scientific center in the Volga region for the acclimatization and introduction of plants. The collection of living plants of the Botanical Garden has about 5000 species, subspecies, forms and varieties. Nature monument of regional significance “Botanical garden of Nizhni Novgorod University” shall perform the following tasks: (a) scientific (botanical) research; (b) protection of gene pool (breeding of rare plant species); (c) education; (d) cultural and educational activity; and (e) aesthetic value. The following activities shall be prohibited on the territory of nature monument: (a) damaging nature monument; (b) privatization and sale of land; (c) lease of land; (d) allotment of land for gardening and horticulture; (e) exploration of subsoil and mining; (f) construction not related to the functioning of nature monument; (g) laying through the territory of communications not related to the functioning of nature monument; (h) modification of hydrological regime of the territory; (i) waste disposal and littering of the territory; (j) destruction (felling) of trees; (k) tree tapping; (l) catching birds and other animals; (m) collection and procurement of medicinal plants, fruits and seeds by excursionists; (n) removal of soil layer; (o) passage and parking of vehicles; (p) transit and grazing of farm animals; and (r) making fires and burning of vegetation; (s) visiting the territory outside of organized excursions; and (t) other types of economic and recreational activities that hinder preservation, restoration and reproduction of protected objects (botanical collection).
