This Permit will be invalid when: the fishing right is cancelled or revoked according to the Law; the quantum allocated to the Permit Holder is caught; the fishing season is terminated or ends; the permit is revoked, cancelled or suspended. Setting and retrieving of longlines can be conducted in South Africa’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), except in the Marine Protected Areas and within a 12 nautical mile area along the entire South African coastline. No fishing is permitted in the EEZ of other countries. The Permit concerns the following contents: notifications; effort limitation and gear restrictions; catch control and limitation, including prohibition from targeting sharks; handling of over/under catches and prohibited species; vessel specifications; vessel monitoring system; landing of fish; submission of information to the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; record keeping; levies; violations; processing and sale of fish; transfer of fishing rights; transportation of fish; fishing performance measuring, including: sustainable fishing practices; ecosystem effects of fishing, including: plastic pollution interaction with birds, turtles and other marine animals , by-catch mitigation measures and release procedures, ecosystem considerations.
