Resumen

Influenza in horses shall be diagnosed on the basis of epizootic data, clinical symptoms of the disease and the results of the laboratory testing. Influenza virus is the main symptom of the respiratory diseases in horses. The disease is most widely spread among the young two- and three-year old race-horses in case of the concentration thereof in the poorly ventilated premises. It shall be strictly prohibited to transport sick and suspected of being infected with influenza horses to the farms free of disease. The newly transported horses shall be put in quarantine for the thirty days’ period. The horses shall be vaccinated against influenza as a preventive arrangement. The horses owned by horse breeding enterprises, sports societies, circuses, and also race-horses and pedigree horses directed outside the boundaries of the horse farm shall be subject to compulsory vaccination. The sick and suspected of being infected with influenza horses or the horses with high temperature shall be exonerated from work and shall be isolated from the rest of herd for the period of ten-fourteen days. The sick horses shall be subject to the symptomatic medical treatment (cordial, antibiotics, and sulphanilamide). It shall be permitted to keep the sick horses on an isolated pasture in the open air in warm dry weather.
