They, among other things, make food authorities responsible for the enforcement of the Regulations within their area, define offences, and apply certain provisions of the Food Safety Act 1990 with modifications (section 9 on inspection and seizure of suspected food). The requirements have been updated in accordance with technical and scientific progress and include an updated definition of what constitutes a “novel food” and the European Commission will establish a European Union list of approved novel foods.
