In the light of this framework and the long-standing practices in relation to the management of the IC of the RPI, this National Programme is based on the following fundamental pillars: Spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste are managed so as to ensure a high level of safety in the environment against the risks posed by ionizing radiation, to minimize unnecessary burdens for future generations. The basic principle of IC and RR management is the need to ensure the radiological protection of the population and workers and the protection of the environment. This principle is not limited to a present perspective, but must also act in accordance with inter-generational responsibility. It must be ensured that future generations are not burdened with burdens and burdens arising from current practices that could have been prevented or reduced.
