Resumen

This National Programme for Food Security is a comprehensive multi-sectoral document targeting the entire food insecure population, with special emphasis on the poor people, small farmers and other most vulnerable groups. It also intends to provide a strategic programme framework with a set of prioritized actions. The mission of the Programme is to achieve and enhance food security including food availability, stability, access, safety and utilization in Syria. Specific objectives to achieve this outcome are: 1) improving the sustainable management of natural resources (environment, forests, land and, especially, water); 2) enhancing agricultural production and productivity (plant production, livestock production) through the adoption of an environmental friendly production diversification and an integrated and coherent approach; 3) promoting agricultural policies, institutional capacities and supporting services; 4) enhancing food stability and risk management capabilities (drought management, household food security and livelihood); and 5) improving food access, together with a food quality and safety that meet the international standard and specifications for domestic consumption and export. These five objectives will be translated into specific projects selected by priority criteria.
