The main objective of the Program is to optimize phytosanitary treatments by reducing the quantitative load of phytosanitary measures per unit of agricultural area, to provide consumers with quality and safe food products of plant origin and a healthy environment. The practical application of the measures and principles of integrated plant protection at the national level is based on the rational use of phytosanitary measures for the control of pests, diseases and weeds through the use of alternative plant protection methods, the introduction of modern cultivation technologies and good agricultural practice (GAP), safe and environmentally friendly environment. About 30 percent of the population is involved in the agricultural sector. For the purposes of developing the agrarian sector, the Government of the Republic of Moldova is promoting a policy to support agricultural producers, consolidating agricultural land, ensuring the adequacy and safety of food products of plant and animal origin, the development and diversification of production and processing infrastructure, rural development, adaptation of the agricultural sector to climate change. In order to ensure the competitiveness of domestic products in the domestic and foreign markets, annual measures are being taken to support and subsidize agricultural producers in the amount of about 500 million lei. Pests distributed on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, annually, depending on climatic conditions, can cause significant damage to crops, accounting for about 25-30% of the estimated crop.
