Resumen

Having regard to Council Regulation (EC) No 1234/2007 establishing a common organisation of agricultural markets and on specific provisions for certain agricultural products, this Decree comes forth to lay down the necessary accompanying measures for applying EU Regulation 288/2009 as regards the consumption of fruits by children in schools, in the framework of a School Fruit Scheme. The measures include (i) student visits at farms so as to get to know better cultivation and production methods applied to fruits and vegetables; (ii) the organisation of theatre representations, children’s cooking competitions and informative events for children, parents and schoolteachers, and (iii) the establishment of school gardens. The strategic objectives of the national Scheme aims at inverting the declining trend of fruit and vegetables consumption and promoting healthy eating habits of children so as to contribute in reducing children’s obesity rates. The Decree states the budget of the scheme, including Community and national contribution, its duration, target group, eligible products and the involvement of relevant stakeholders, such as educational and health authorities, the private sector or the children's parents.
