Resumen This Act gives effect to the provisions of United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea relating to piracy on high seas. The Act provides for punishment for anyone committing any act of piracy, or attempting or abetting or conspiring to commit piracy. The Act provides for arrest of persons and seizure of pirate ships and property on board. The Central Government shall specify one or more courts of sessions in a state, to be the Designated Court for the purposes of the Act. It also provides for the jurisdiction of such Designated Courts. The offences under the Act shall be deemed to have been included as extraditable offences and in the absence of a bilateral extradition treaty, the offences under the Act shall be extraditable offences between India and other State on the basis of reciprocity.
