This Law enters into force on 1 June 2018.
Resumen

The scope of this Law shall be to regulate relations concerning identification, preservation, protection, sustainable use and development of livestock genetic resources. It shall be applicable to livestock breeding with the use of traditional knowledge. Livestock genetic resources shall be intended livestock breeds and traditional knowledge related thereto. Livestock breeding products shall be intended DNA, RNA, body cells, eggs, seeds, embryos, specimens and other components of livestock heritage data. Registration of livestock genetic resources shall include: (a) registration of livestock; (b) registration of livestock breeding materials; (c) genetic evaluation of livestock population; and (d) registration of traditional knowledge related to livestock genetic resources. Genetic assessment of animal breeds refers to genetic heritage, productivity, appearance, physique, body weight, genetic quality, and genomic patterns. Management and research of livestock genetic resources shall be performed for the following purposes: (a) to strengthen and improve the diversity of wildlife and increase the quality and yield of the product; (b) to create new breeds and strains of livestock adapted to regional characteristics; (c) to strengthen the capacity livestock to risk resistance; (d) to introduce biotechnology achievements in pedigree stockbreeding; (e) to improve economic turnover of the livestock sector and improve competitiveness thereof; (f) to ensure processing and supply of safe and high quality foodstuffs and raw materials of animal origin; and (g) to obtain assessments of genetic resources with a view of obtaining economic benefits therefrom. This Law consists of VI Chapters divided into 21 Articles. Chapter I lays down general provisions. Chapter II regards registration, identification of livestock and determines the state of genetic resources. Chapter III regards genetic resources destined for research. Chapter IV regards conservation and protection of genetic resources. Chapter V regards management of livestock genetic resources. Chapter VI contains miscellaneous provisions.
