The width of the territorial sea is twelve nautical miles measured from the baseline. Article 3 refers to Decree No. 2/250-67 of July, 1973 which establishes the baselines from which the territorial sea is measured. If no baseline is declared the baseline shall be the low-tide line along the shore. Article 4 provides for boundaries in the case of territorial waters of adjacent countries which would overlap with Iranian waters. Articles 5 to 11 provide for innocent passing and jurisdiction of Iran. The remaining articles deal, inter alia, with a contiguous zone of 24 nautical miles measured from the baseline, the EEZ and Continental Shelf and the preservation of the environment and natural resources.
