Certifications carried out to confirm that a product or service meets the requirements of established standards. Purposes of certification are specified in article 2. They include consumer protection, control of safety for the public and environment, to give indications regarding quality of products, etc. The functions of Sakstandarti, the Georgian State Department of standardization, Metrology and Certification are set out in article 5.Certification systems shall be established by "state executive bodies and legal entities (art. 6). Mandatory certification is carried out in cases provide for in Georgian law (art. 8). Obligations of certification authorities are set out in article 11. Article 13 lists the obligations of manufacturers of products subject to mandatory certification.
