Resumen This Law consisting of 15 articles aims at regulating privatization activities and defining its conditions and applications. The purpose is to encourage the private sector participation in all sectors, including water and electricity. The Law establishes a framework within future public-private initiatives will be able to: regulate the economic sector involved in the transaction; identify regulatory bodies to oversee public-private transfers and monitor privatized projects; and specify the duration of transactions pursuant to Article 89 of Lebanon’s Constitution. The planning and executing of the privatization is devoted to a Higher Council for Privatization. It may also seek support from inside or outside the public sector. All privatization transactions are abided by regulations to: entertain competition; protect consumers’ rights; to insure labour rights; and guarantee transparency and make information available to the public upon request.
