Resumen The purpose of this Law shall be prevention of micronutrient deficiency of the population. The Act consists of 4 Sections divided into 18 articles: (1) general provisions; (2) state regulation in the sphere of prevention of micronutrient deficiency of the population; (3) preventive arrangements concerning micronutrient deficiency of the population; and (4) conclusive provisions. Micronutrients are indispensable nutritional substances (vitamins and mineral substances) required for normal growth and development of human organism. Micronutrient deficiency originates from insufficient intake of micronutrients from food, leading to the development of diseases. The main directions of state policy for the prevention of micronutrient deficiency of the population shall be: (a) state control over food quality and food safety and in particular over food additives; (b) promotion of enriched food production; (c) promotion and support of production of food additives; and (d) research aimed at identification of micronutrient deficiency and prevention thereof.
