Resumen This Law regulates the relations related to the use of mercury, mercury compounds, mercury waste and mercury-based compounding materials in the Republic of Armenia, the purpose of which is to protect human health and the environment from man-made emissions of mercury and mercury compounds. This Law shall not be applicable to: (a) laboratory tests; and (b) natural traces of mercury compounds present in ores. The responsibilities of the Government in the field of ensuring ecologically safe conditions for the management of mercury, mercury compounds, mercury wastes and mercury compounding materials are: (a) defining the list of substances with mercury compounding materials prohibited for export from the Republic of Armenia and for import into the Republic of Armenia; (b) defining the procedure for mercury export from the Republic of Armenia; (c) defining the procedure for mercury import to the Republic of Armenia; and (d) assessment of areas contaminated with mercury and mercury compounding materials. Import of mercury to the Republic of Armenia is allowed only in case of having a one-time license issued by the authorized body. In the Republic of Armenia, the manufacturing of the following commodities with mercury compounding materials is prohibited: (a) batteries; (b) circuit breakers and relays; (c) small fluorescent lamps for general lighting of 30 W or less, with a mercury content exceeding 5 mg per lamp burner; (d) tubular fluorescent lamps for general lighting; and (e) cosmetics with a mercury content. This Law contains IV Chapters divided into 12 Articles. Chapter I lays down general provisions. Chapter II regards trade of mercury containing commodities.
