Law No. 483-I on the quality and safety of foodstuffs.

This Law provides the legal basis for ensuring the quality and safety of foodstuffs and tobacco products. State regulation of food quality and safety shall include: (a) standardization; (b) state registration of foodstuffs and manufacturing equipment; (c) certification; (d) state supervision and control; and (e) planning of the arrangements for ensuring quality and safety of foodstuffs. Standardization shall entail the establishment of hygienic, sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary requirements for product quality and safety, processing, storage, transportation and sale. The list of foodstuffs and equipment for the manufacturing thereof shall be validated in accordance with relevant legislation. Manufacturers of new food products must provide proof of their safety, expiration date, qualitative indices and control methods. Use of food additives containing narcotic substances shall be prohibited. Manufacturers must label food products as required by legislation. Foodstuffs harmful to human health shall be subject to confiscation. State sanitary supervision bodies shall perform state registration on imported foodstuffs and foodstuffs manufactured on the national territory at the moment of issuance of sanitary and epidemiological conclusion. Shall be prohibited state registration of various types of food products under the same name; multiple registrations of the same type of food products under one and different names; and registration of food, food additives, feed and biologically active food additives containing narcotic drugs. Food products, technologies, equipment, products and means, intended for its production, storage, transportation and trade, are subject to certification to confirm compliance with regulations and rules.
