Resumen With this law are laid down the definitions, methods and procedures for establishing the zones of the seashore, beach, old seashore, port, area of port and the management of them. Regarding the determination of the boundaries of the zone so-called "old seashore zone", article 1, paragraph 3 of the law defines that: "old seashore zone is the land zone which derived from the shifting of the seashore towards the sea, due to illuviations or constructions and it is defined by the modern seashore limit and the limit of the older seashore". The determination of the boundaries of such areas shall be done by a Committee, which is constituted at a Prefecture level (art. 3). According to the provisions of the law, the seashore, beach, lake banks and riparian areas are public property administered, managed and protected by the State. Its public use is direct and practiced by each individual without the need of special authorizations or approvals. The main destination of these areas is to remain open so as free access to them can be provided. Exceptionally the seashore, beach, lakes bank and the riparian areas can be used for environmental and cultural purposes provided that such uses do not preclude their public designation and do not affect their natural morphology and biotic elements. Within the areas defined by this law, the construction of buildings is prohibited unless they serve the aforementioned purposes. The old seashore and the old bank zones constitute a State domain and are registered as public land (art. 2). The law also makes provisions for the concession of such zones and expropriation of private land adjacent to those zones. The law makes a special mention with regard to the islands of the Dodecanese Prefecture (art. 26). The provisions of this law shall apply, together with the provisions of Decree No. 132/1929 regarding the cadastre regulation of the Dodecanese region and Law No. 510/1947.
