Article 8.3 of the Law enters into force on 1 January 2003. Resumen This Law establishes the legal, organizational and economic measures related to salt iodination to protect against iodine deficiency. It requires that the manufacture, import and trade of iodized salt comply with relevant requirements and standards to ensure its quality and safety. Salt used for human consumption as well as feedstuffs must be iodinated and composition, quality and safety thereof must comply with standards and requirements. Refinement, manufacturing, iodination and trade of salt shall be carried out in accordance with sanitary and hygienic requirements. Iodinated salt shall be subject to mandatory certification in accordance with established modalities.
