Resumen This Law, consisting of 32 articles divided into nine Chapters, establishes rules for plant health protection in the State of Santa Catarina, including actions aimed at ensuring plant health, in harmony with national and international guidelines on the matter. The objectives of this Law are: preserve plant health and food production; promote the continuous improvement of the state's phytosanitary condition; establish phytosanitary measures to ensure the health of vegetables, their products and by-products; encourage the effective participation of society in plant health actions; and strengthen the economy and social welfare. The principles of plant health protection are: precaution; prevention; technical basis for phytosanitary measures; advertising of phytosanitary requirements, restrictions and prohibitions; agreement between state, national and international phytosanitary standards; adoption of phytosanitary measures without discrimination; plant health, environmental sustainability, food security and economic viability; and creation of public policies to protect plant health as a duty of the State.
