Resumen This Law provides for preservation of the genetic diversity within the Federal District. It establishes that the Government is responsible to preserve the genetic diversity contained in the territory of the Federal District through the following actions: implementation of a system of conservation units which is representative of the State ecosystems, habitats and biological diversity that occurs in the Federal District; establishment of buffer areas adjacent to protected areas; implantation of germplasm banks of wild species; identification and monitoring of activities that may have adverse effects on the conservation of biological diversity; identification and monitoring of components of biological diversity that have potential for sustainable use or which require urgent conservation measures; recovery and regeneration of degraded ecosystems and endangered species; encouraging research on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity; dissemination of genetic resources and technologies that promote the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity; establishment of environmental education programmes for the conservation of biological diversity.
