O. 40). The present Regulation lays down provisions relating to the protection of Lake Simcoe, the largest inland lake in southern Ontario. A significant concern affecting Lake Simcoe’s ecological health is an over-abundance of phosphorus. In particular, section 2 establishes that each owner of a sewage treatment plant listed in column 2 of Table 1 shall ensure that the plant does not discharge in treated sewage to a surface water body an amount of total phosphorus that exceeds the amount listed opposite each plant in Column 4 of Table 1 during each of the periods listed in this section.
