It specifies the acceptable limits and the permissible limits in the absence of alternate source. Drinking water must comply with pesticide residue limit, bacteriological requirements, virological requirements and biological requirement provided in the document. It also states that the drinking water must be free from microscopic organisms such as algae, zooplanktons, flagellates, parasites and toxin producing organisms.
