Resumen

These guidelines play a crucial role in the implementation of Uganda's National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance, aimed at slowing the dissemination of resistant microorganisms. They constitute part of the technical documentation produced by MAAIF, aligning with both global and national objectives to enhance the judicious use of antimicrobial agents in the animal sector. This is a pivotal strategy in combating the spread of AMR. These guidelines will serve as a valuable resource for farmers and frontline veterinary practitioners, particularly in the areas of infection prevention, appropriate use of antimicrobials, and maintaining records for farm animals and veterinary products. Their aim is to establish farming conditions that deter or reduce the occurrence and transmission of infections, while advocating for the responsible and secure administration of medications. The text is designed in 4 Chapters as follow: Introduction (1); Infection Prevention Practices (2); Appropriate Antimicrobial Use Practices (3); and Keeping records for veterinary medicines used on the cattle farm (4).
