In particular, the Act creates a regulatory framework that enables the Province to set benchmarks for the amount of renewable fuel in B.C.’s transportation fuel blends, reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels and meet its commitment to adopt a low-carbon fuel standard. The Act will also help diversify B.C.’s transportation fuel supply and decrease greenhouse gas emissions by establishing a sustainable market for low-carbon fuels. The flexible design of this legislation will: a) encourage suppliers to determine how best to meet the requirements in accordance with consumer demand and market forces; b) create additional consumer choice and reduced reliance on non-renewable fuels; c) enable requirements that encourage emerging cleaner fuel technologies. The text consists of 30 sections divided into 7 Parts as follows: Introductory provisions (1); Renewable fuel requirements (2); Low carbon fuel requirements (3); Administrative penalties (4); Appeals to Environmental Appeal Board (5); Offences (6); General (7).
