This Act is to establish the general principles to ensure safety and quality of food and feed at the national level. It shall institute the structures and mechanisms for Food Safety in the Republic of Liberia; and apply to all activities and all areas of the safety and quality of foods and feeds affecting the health of consumers. It shall apply to all stages of production, processing, and distribution of food commodities, which are undertaken in the course of a food business. The Law further provides for risk assessment, risk communication, risk management, activities included in risk analysis, precautionary principle, transparency, food safety requirements, feed safety requirements, regulations regarding safety of food, international trade in food and feed, food and feed exported from the Republic of Liberia, licensing, license conditions, suspension and cancellation of license, fees for award and renewal of licenses, safety responsibilities of food and feed busines operators, requirements for traceability of food and feeds, requirements for a system to control food safety hazards, regulations of food quality, labeling, false and misleading descriptions, official control of safety of food and feed, general principles of inspection, health and hygiene inspection of persons in contact with food and feed, sampling for laboratory analysis, official control of food quality, general principles of inspection, accreditation of official testing laboratories, emergency measures for ensuring safety of food and feed, general plan for crisis management, the Food Authority, organization of the Authority, duties of the Board of Directors, the scientific committee, scientific opinions, stakeholder consultative forum, powers and responsibilities of competent authority, offenses and defenses, and the food control advisory committee.
