The preceding provisions give a definition of adulterated food and prescribe requirements regarding labelling. Sale of injurious drugs or impure food is also forbidden. Section 19 confers powers upon the Chief Medical Officer to examine any food, drug, article or appliance which is advertised, exhibited or offered for sale, for the purpose of ascertaining its composition and properties. Part IV concerns powers of sampling and inspection by Health Surveyors. Part V contains rule for the safeguarding of food from contamination. Part VI contains provisions that prescribe conditions governing the sale of certain foods including fish and shellfish.
