Resumen

These Regulations implement Council Directive 2002/99 laying down the animal health rules governing the production, processing and distribution of products of animal origin for human consumption. The Regulations shall apply to the introduction into the State of products of animal origin, other than fish, from third countries for human consumption. They require products introduced in Ireland, placed on the market or possessed to comply with food law of the European Communities and food law of the country of origin where such law is equivalent to the food law of the European Communities, or the European Communities has concluded an agreement in respect of such products with that third country and the animal product has been presented for a veterinary examination in accordance with the requirements of Council Directive No. 97/78. The Regulations also provide for the keeping of records, the appointment and powers of authorized officers to implement the Regulations and for the prosecution of offences.
