Resumen

This By-law of the City of Cape Town concerns environmental health in the area of jurisdiction of the city. It deals with, among other things, prevention and suppression of health nuisances, medical waste management, the conveying and handling for sale of meat intended for human consumption and inspections. The By-law requires owners or occupiers to keep their premises clean and to maintain sewer systems and to avoid storage of waste that may create a public nuisance. It shall be prohibited to, amongst others, cause or permit any foul or polluted water or any foul liquid or objectionable material to run or flow from any premises to that owned or occupied by another person, whether occupied for trade, business, manufacturing, dwelling or other purposes, onto any land or into any stormwater, river or canal system. Commit, cause or permit to be committed any act which may pollute any water to which inhabitants of the area of jurisdiction of the council have the right of use or access. Generators must handle and store medical waste in a safe manner that poses no threat to human health or to the environment and are under a duty to ensure that medical waste is removed from their premises, transported and disposed of in accordance with this By-law.
