Resumen

The purpose of the Act is to protect the environment and public health from harmful effects resulting from genetic engineering. The Act shall also apply to the territorial waters and the fishery territory of Denmark. "Genetically modified organisms" is here defined as "plants, animals, micro-organisms, cell cultures and viruses in which the genetic material has been restructured in a way that does not occur naturally". Genetic engineering shall be carried out only in premises approved for such purposes by the Working Environment Act (sect. 6). Approval of regional authorities shall be obtained (sect. 8). The Minister of Environment may issue rules regarding notification schemes applicable to certain types of genetic engineering (sect. 9). Importation or sale of genetically engineered substances as specified requires approval of the Minister (sect. 10).
