Its function is to provide financial incentives to developing countries for their results achieved in combating deforestation and forest degradation and in enhancing forest cover. Through this instrument, developing countries that produce verified results of forest-related greenhouse gas emission reductions and enhancement of forest carbon stocks become eligible to receive results-based payments from various international sources, in particular the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
