For this purpose, the Act provides rules relative to: (a) trade in specimens that are, or are derived from, animals and plants that: (i) are threatened with extinction or are or may be affected by trade; (ii) may become so threatened if international trade in specimens of such species is not subject to strict regulation; or (iii) require or are likely to require protection or the cooperation of other States in order to prevent or restrict exploitation; and (b) trade in specimens that are difficult to distinguish from specimens referred to above.
