It, among other things: regulates the granting of licences for the generation, transmission, supply, distribution, importation and export of electricity, provides with respect to certain environmental requirements and for inspection, provides for the expropriation of land for purposes of this Act and prescribes offences. Electricity may only be generated or distributed with due compliance with: (a) rules or codes made by the Board relating to, amongst others, charges for the provision of electricity; and (b) the requirements of any other law, in particular laws relating to health, safety and environmental standards. The Minister or the Board may request the applicant for a licence to submit an environmental impact assessment study indicating the extent of any potential damage to or pollution of the environment and the steps proposed to be taken by the applicant to prevent or minimise such damage.
