In terms of Section 12 of the NEMA, the purpose and objects of environmental implementation plans is to co- ordinate and harmonise the environmental policies, plans, programmed and decisions of the various national departments that exercise functions that may affect the environment or are entrusted with powers and duties aimed at the achievement, promotion, and protection of a sustainable environment. EIPs are important in that they minimise the duplication of procedures and functions; and promote consistency in the exercise of functions that may affect the environment. This EIP applies to the tourism sector. It sets out the strategic objectives of the NDT and the structure and plans programmes of the NDT (in particular those that may affect the environment). The Plan also describes potential impacts of tourism policies, plans, programmes on the environment, including potential impacts on water resources. It also describes how the Department will manage environmental impact of tourism. In addressing the environmental impacts associated with the implementation of tourism policies, programmes and plans, the following indicators will be pursued: 1 Reduction in the environmental impact associated with tourism business operations; 2. Full compliance with relevant environmental legislation; 3. Responsible tourism practices implemented; and 4. Green skills in tourism promoted. Texto completo Inglés Página web www.gov.za
