Resumen This Decree-Law, consisting of 20 articles establishes principles and norms to which cartographic production must obey in the national territory. These provisions apply to all cartography, topography and thematic maps, except the classified cartography of the Army. The State, through the Minister of Planning and Territorial Administration, is responsible for defining technical standards in the field of cartographic production and reproduction as follows: a) ensure, through the competent public bodies and services, the coverage of the territory with topographic mapping at 1: 10000 and lower scales and hydrographic mapping at 1: 5000 and lower scales, as well as their updates; b) ensure the production and maintenance of thematic cartography legally assigned to public bodies and services. Any entity may produce cartography or carry out activities in the field of cartographic production provided that it is authorized by law. This Decree-Law creates the Cartography Coordinating Council, under the Ministry of Planning and Territorial Administration. This Council is the coordinating body for the activity of public bodies and services legally competent to produce cartography. Offences and penalties are appended to the text.
