Resumen

In this Law, "Notified Diseases" means those contagious animal diseases declared as such, with a Notification issued by the Director and published in the Official Gazette. "Director" means the Director of the Veterinary Department. "Animal" means any mammal, bird, reptile, insect, fish, testacea and mollusc. "Minister" means the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Declaration of Infected Areas: the Minister shall have power from time to time, when it shall seem to him to be necessary, to declare any district or area within the State, or place within any such area, to be a place infected or suspected of being infected with a contagious animal disease. Power of Minister to make orders: the Minister may, from time to time, make any general or special orders for the following purposes or any of them: a) for prohibiting or regulating the movement of persons or animals into or out of a district, area or place declared to be an Infected Area; b) for prescribing and regulating the quarantine of animals being in an Infected Area; c) for regulating the impounding, slaughtering or destruction of animals within an Infected Area; d) for regulating or prohibiting the transport or removal of animal products, animal carcasses, hides or pelts, horns, bones, eggs or entrails or whatsoever, into or out an Infected Area; e) for prescribing and regulating the destruction of affected animals, the way of burial, the disposal or treatment of slaughtered animals or any other product or sub-product of animal nature which is capable of transmitting contagious diseases; f) for prescribing and regulating the cleansing and disinfecting of infected places and areas, or parts thereof; g) for regulating or prohibiting the keeping of animals within public or fenced areas, or fields, or other places insufficiently fenced, or in the proximity of motorways, within an infected district, area or place; h) for regulating or prohibiting the selling of animals and generally he may decide for the purpose of preventing the introduction into the State or the spreading therein of an animal contagious disease; m) for the appointment, pay and regulation of the duties of persons to be charged with the execution of any provisions or orders made by virtue of this Law. Declaration of freedom from infection: the Minister may from time to time declare, subject to such conditions as he may think fit, any district, area or place within any area, as being no longer suspected of being infected with an animal contagious disease. Thereupon, save as otherwise by such declaration provided, any general or special order that may have been made under the provisions of this Law shall, so far as it affects any such district, area or place, cease to have effect.
