The purpose of the Regulations is to regulate the assessment and compensation to be paid for destroyed animals. In particular, the district veterinarian of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency determines whether a disease is present or suspected on a farm, he may issue an "order for destruction" which outlines what will be destroyed and, therefore, what compensation may be awarded. Depending on the situation and the number of animals involved, the district veterinarian who issues the order may arrange for a compensation assessment team or a single evaluator to visit the farm. The text consists of 4 sections as follows: Interpretation (1); Maximum amounts (2); Compensation for costs of disposal (3); Repeal (4); Coming into force (5). One Schedule is enclosed.
