Resumen

The present Decision regulates the procedures for veterinary checks to be performed at Community border inspection posts on products coming from third countries. Importers must, using a document based on the model laid down in Annex B, inform the veterinary staff of the border inspection post in advance of arrival of the products. If the veterinary checks carried out indicate that the product should not be imported into the Community the competent authority, after consulting the importer or his representative, shall decide promptly either to return or to destroy it (art. 4). The Annexes attached describe fully the procedures to be followed. Firstly, Annex A lays down detailed rules for documentary and identity checks on products from third countries. Annex C, on the other side, contains detailed rules as regards physical checks on products. Annex D deals with laboratory testing of products. Annex E specifies the plant products which shall be subject to these veterinary checks as well. Lastly, Annex F contains the list of countries or parts of countries from which Member States shall authorize import of hay and straw.
