"Biological residues" means the residue of any substance, including metabolic products; metabolites remaining in the tissues and organs of animals after slaughter as a result of treatment or exposure of the animals to pesticide, herbicide, fungicide, organic or inorganic compound, hormone or hormone like substances, growth promoter, antibiotic, etc. Officers shall be authorized by the Belize Agricultural Health Authority for purposes of these Regulations to take samples as deemed necessary (reg. 3). These officers shall also conduct a regular surveillance of the biological residues of animals being slaughtered in accordance with provisions of regulation 4. Records of all samples submitted for analysis shall be kept in accordance with regulation 5. Tolerance levels for biological residues shall be as specified in the Third Schedule. If the biological residues in an animal exceed the tolerance level, measures prescribed by regulations 7 and 8 may be taken in respect of a suspected animal. Regulations 9 to 11 concern the control of use and presence of prohibited or non-approved substances in approved establishments.
