It also sets transitional standards for the time in which the Volume 2 comes into effect; until such time in Australia the food must comply either with Volume 1 (Food Standards Code which was published by the National Health and Medical Research Council in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette, No. P 27, on 27 August 1987) or Volume 2. Volume 2 is organized in 3 Chapters. Chapter 1 concerns general food standards, concerns Labelling and other Information Requirements, Substances Added to Food, Contaminants and Residues, Foods Requiring Pre-Market Clearance and Microbiological and Processing Requirements. Chapter 2 regulates food products standards and provides a list of standard for several types of food (e.g. cereals, eggs, meat, dairy, oil and beverages) including as well special foods, such as infant formula and macronutrient modified foods.
