Abstract

Objectives: To preserve the natural fauna and flora of certain parts of the world, particularly of Africa, by means of national parks and reserves, and by regulation of hunting and collection of species.

Summary of provisions: Parties undertake to establish national parks and strict natural reserves in their territories (art. 3), and to control all human settlements therein (art. 4). They are to encourage the preservation of forest areas and domestication of economically utilisable wild animals to (art. 7). The protection of species listed in annex is to be of special urgency and importance (art. 8). Parties are to control trade in trophies and manufacture of articles from them (art. 9) and to generally prohibit certain methods of hunting, e.g. poison, explosives, dazzling lights, nets, pits, snares, etc. (art. 10).
