Summary of provisions: The Council is to promote and encourage research and investigations for the study of the sea, and particularly its living resources, to draw up programmes for this purpose and to disseminate the results of such research (art. 1). It is to be concerned with the Atlantic Ocean and its adjacent seas, and primarily with the north Atlantic (art. 2). The Council is to maintain working arrangements with other international organisations (art. 4). This abstract takes into consideration the amendment adopted in 1970.
