This Convention, which applies to all ships of the parties thereto whether inside or outside the areas in respect of which the parties exercise exclusive fishing rights, imposes prohibitions of and conditions on the use of fishing gear and prohibits the taking of salmon smaller than 60cm in length. The parties undertake to take legislative measures to prohibit the sale etc. of salmon taken in contravention of the Convention. Taking for scientific or conservation purposes is not covered by the Convention. A permanent committee, composed of representatives of the parties, is established, its main function being to promote and co-ordinate contacts between international organizations, national research institutes and scientists
