Abstract

The Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the People's Republic of China have agreed as follows: 1) The Contracting Parties have agreed to carry out the joint economic activity on some islands and adjacent defined areas of water of the borderline rivers. The zones of the joint economic activity shall be defined after the completion of demarcation of the Eastern part of the Russian-Chinese border. 2) The joint economic activity is a temporary measure. The period the aforesaid activity shall be co-ordinated separately by the Contracting Parties. 3) Traditional economic activity, carried out by the borderline population of one of the countries on the territory of the other country must not restrict the rights of the sovereign state over the co-ordinated zones of the joint economic activity for the development and use of the aforesaid zones. 4) Borderline population of one of the countries that carries out traditional economic activity on the territory of the other country must not carry out any type of economic activity not envisaged by the present Agreement, nor trespass the limits of the co-ordinated zones of the joint economic activity. 5) Borderline population of one of the countries that carries out traditional economic activity on the territory of the other country must not cause any damage to environment or natural resources. In case of inflicting such damage the culprits are liable for the prosecution in accordance with the legislation currently in force in the country of stay.
