The nexus By mismanaging our natural resources, we inevitably create the breeding grounds for war. And as our capacity for waging war ruthlessly expands, so does the permanent and devastating effect of war on our environment. Similarly, just as some crimes against humanity, in war and in peace, have proven so heinous as to validate international criminal jurisdiction, so some crimes against the environment may justify equivalent treatment.
