Abstract

This article compares legislation and policy operating in New Zealand and NSW which governs indigenous involvement in cultural heritage management. The provisions of New Zealand's Resource Management Act 1991 and the Historic Places Act 1993 are compared to various NSW and Commonwealth statutes such as the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 and the Native Title Act 1993. The article focuses upon indigenous involvement in EIA and protected area management and the ownership of cultural property
