Abstract

This article analyses the role of economic and regulatory instruments in environmental management practices in Asian industrializing countries: Based on assessment of the effectiveness of the application of command-and control instruments in these countries, it argues for the adoption of market-based economic instruments as complimentary tools for environmental protection in the current Asian context of rapid industrialization, growing decentralization, and emerging economic and financial systems
