An Act to establish the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation and to provide for the functions, powers and duties thereof; to provide for the constitution, functions, powers and duties of the Mining Development Board; to regulate the financial affairs of the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation; and to provide for matters incidental to or connected with the foregoing.

Abstract

This Act establishes the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation. The operations of the Corporation shall, subject to this Act, be controlled by a board, to be known as the Mining Development Board. The functions and duties of the Corporation shall be: (a) to invest in the mining industry in Zimbabwe on behalf of the State; (b) to plan, co-ordinate and implement mining development projects on behalf of the State; (c) to engage in prospecting, exploration, mining and mineral beneficiation programmes; (d) to encourage and undertake the formation of mining cooperatives; (e) to render assistance to persons engaged in or about to engage in mining; (f) to review annually the general economic conditions and prospects of the mining industry and in particular investment schemes; and other tasks specified in section 20 or as may be imposed upon the Corporation by any enactment.
