Abstract Comprising 87 Articles organized into XVI Parts, this Act serves as a comprehensive framework for the conservation, protection, enforcement, and management of the environment within the Republic of Zanzibar. It establishes fundamental principles, including the obligation of every individual to preserve the environment, the right to a clean, safe, and healthy environment, and the responsibility to maintain, safeguard, and enhance such an environment. The Act is guided by key principles, namely, the precautionary principle, the polluter pays principle, the promotion of ecosystem integrity, fostering public participation, encouraging international cooperation in environmental management, and acknowledging common but differentiated responsibilities.
