Subject Agricultural & rural development, General Keyword Agricultural development Capacity building Credit Subsidy/incentive Rural employment Special fund Business/industry/corporations Geographical area Africa, Eastern Africa Abstract This Act establishes the West Pokot County Cooperative development Fund as a legal personality and charges the Fund with the following functions: Provide an opportunity to small scale entrepreneurs to gain commercial experience to enable them play their part in industrial and commercial development of the county; provide enterprise development services; enhance the small and medium enterprises' competitiveness as they graduate into bigger vibrant enterprises; and perform any other lawful function for purposes of promoting enterprise and entrepreneurship development in the county. The Act provides for loans granted through the Fund to carry a low interest rate. Among other things, the Act provides that the Executive Committee who administers the Fund should be guided by the principles of ensuring public participation and financial inclusiveness, protecting the interests of the marginalized including persons with disability, women, youths, and locals, and linking donors and participants to the programmes. Importantly, the Fund is set up to provide affordable and competitive credit to successful applicants and to provide enterprise development services. Full text English
