Abstract This Act establishes the Weights and Measures Standards. The Government shall arrange for the preparation of national standards for all basic units. All National Standards of Weights and Measures shall be preserved in such place and condition as may be prescribed by the authorized person and he shall arrange for their issuance and certification before preservation and after every 10 years. The Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, declare such dimensions and values as it thinks fit, as secondary standard units of measurement: Provided that, except for the unit of time, the unit of such secondary standard shall be a positive or negative power of ten times the corresponding base unit. The inspector or authorized person shall certify the weights, measures or weighing or measuring instruments brought to him in the area under his jurisdiction, and if he finds them to be correct, he shall affix the seal of authenticity in such manner as the Government may direct.
